Paddling Safety Standards

Australian Canoeing Safety Guidelines

The Australian Canoeing Safety Guidelines provide the minimum requirements for the conduct of safe non-competitive paddling activities in Australia. They cover preparedness, planning, equipment, and different recreational paddling types.  These safety standards are useful for personal paddling, professional paddlers, and all groups and organisations involved in paddling and can be viewed on the Australian Canoeing website.

Adventure Activities Standards

The Adventure Activity Standards for canoeing and kayaking provide acceptable paddling practice standards for outdoor education/recreation organisations, schools and training providers in Victoria. The Adventure Activity Standards are provided in a format which is consistent with other outdoor recreation adventure activity standards and are available on the Outdoors Victoria website.

Department of Training and Education Guidelines

The Safety Guidelines for Education Outdoors Canoeing and Kayaking are in place to support the planning and approval of paddling adventure activities for Victorian Schools and related organisations on open or inland waterways. Read the guidelines here.

There are also separate safety guidelines for sea kayaking activities.
